We report independently. No advertiser, sponsor, or outside interest influences what we cover or how we cover it. Editorial and advertising are separate, always.

We verify before we publish. We attribute claims, we seek comment from the people and institutions we write about, and we distinguish reporting from opinion.

Opinion pieces are labeled as opinion. News reporting is not a venue for the author's views.

We do not accept gifts, travel, or favors from the people we cover. Our journalists disclose conflicts and recuse themselves where one exists.

We protect sources who speak to us in confidence, and we grant anonymity only when the public interest requires it and the information cannot be obtained another way.
